Pokemon Go has reached the one billion download milestone, a couple of weeks after the game's third birthday.
That doesn't mean that there are 1 billion active Pokemon Go players though, and a portion of those figures probably come from re-downloads after players came back to the game. However, it's still a significant milestone for the mobile phenomenon that dominated headlines at the time of it's release.
Niantic's augmented reality adventure is often slapped with a label of "flash success", perhaps due to the surge of 500 million downloads upon release and in a couple of months, dropping down to a more level curve. But another 500 million downloads in three years is nothing to take lightly.
Analysts have also pointed out that the game has grossed an estimated $2.65 billion worldwide across Google Play and the App Store - edging out Candy Crush Saga and Clash Royale.
