With confirmed reports of Venom's original film director, Ruben Fleischer, not returning to helm the sequel, Sony is considering actor-filmmaker Andy Serkis to direct Venom 2.
Serkis is best known for his pioneering motion capture and performance capture acting work and rose to fame by portraying Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, which opened the doors into his directoral debut in the 2017 drama "Breathe." He also helmed last years take on Rudyard Kipling's "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" which ended up in Netflix. His other notable portrayals are Caesar of Planet of the Apes, Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars, and King Kong. His resume would make him the perfect candidate for a movie such as Venom 2, which will be effects heavy and mix DG and performance capture technology.
Kelly Marcel wrote the script for the sequel which will also star Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson as chief Venom villain Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage.
Sony wants the project to start before November this year.
