Amazon's upcoming "Lord of the Rings" series has made its first casting decision.
Variety has learned from sources that actress Markella Kavenagh is in talks for a role in the upcoming epic fantasy series. Details of Kavenagh's character are being kept under silent, but sources revealed that she would be playing a character named Kyra.
Kavenagh's previous TV projects include Romper Stomper, The Cry and Picnic at Hanging Rock.
Little is known about the "Lord of the Rings" series beyond the fact that it will explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkiens "The Fellowship of the Ring." early rumors suggests the show will focus Aragorn's younger days. However, in March Amazon confirmed the series will take place in the Second Age of Middle Earth, thousands of years before the events of the original trilogy.
We do know that the series is being developed by the writing team of JD Payne and Patrick McKay. In addition, "Game of Thrones" alum Bryan Cogman has signed on as a consultant on the project with J.A. Bayona set to direct the first two episodes.
The series will be produced by Amazon Studios on cooperation with Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment.
