"Happy Thanksgiving! I’m going to kiss my wife and hold her tenderly. All day. And every day. How do YOU show love? #IStandWithMelissa"
Benoist video recounts the course of the relationship that she experienced from her abuser. The video is titled "Life Isn't Always What it Seems". Benoist refused to name the alleged abuser but fans are starting to figure out, and theres this one incident that permanently damaged her eye. Benoist recounted a similar incident in an interview with Jimmy Fallon in 2016, but she disguised it with her clumsiness.
At the end of the video, Benoist ended her story by supporting other victims and hoped that victims will realize that they can live a violence-free life. "I choose to love. I don't choose to minimize my life out of fear," Benoist says in her video.
"I choose to love myself, to know that love does not include violence and to let victims know that there is a way out in which you will be protected. If you are enduring what I went through and you see this maybe you will find this tiny straw that will break the camel's back or at least you might begin to think of your freedom in which case I am here. I am with you and you can and deserve to live a violence-free life."
Benoist is set to appear in “Crisis On Infinite Earths” crossover as SuperGirl on December 8.
