According to news reports from Variety, Warner Bros. confirmed that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are set to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, while Lana Wachowski will pen and direct the film.
Plot details are currently unknown, as is how the role of Morpheus(Laurence Fishburne) will be handled. Sources suggest that the role may be recast for a younger take.
"We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana,” Warner Bros. Picture chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement. “Lana is a true visionary, a singular and original creative filmmaker, and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
The first "Matrix" had its 20th anniversary this year and released tickets for special screenings at select AMC locations starting on August 30, 2019.
