Warner Bros. and DC Films are bringing in John Wick director Chad Stahelski in an uncredited role to oversee the second unit photography for Birds of Prey and designing new action sequences for the film alongside director Cathy Yan.
The John Wick director is the perfect person for Warner Brothers' to turn to as it aims to maximize action scenes for the female-driven Suicide Squad spinoff starring Margot Robbie. Birds of Prey was already aiming for John Wick-caliber stunt work, as Stahelski is already creatively invested in the project. His company 87 Eleven has been working on the movie's stunts since production started.
Stahelski started his career as Keanu Reeves' stunt double in the Matrix movies, and later on directed all three John Wick movies. He also helped direct several hit movies, including The Hunger Games, The Expendables 2, and Captain America: Civil War. Stahelski is represented by WME.
Birds of Prey is currently in post-production, with Yan about to begin reshoots on the film.
Directed by Cathy Yan, Birds of Prey sees Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn and teaming up with DC's Black Canary and the huntress. The film is slated to hit theaters in February 7, 2020, and also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, and Ewan McGregor as Black Mask.
DC recently released Aquaman and Shazam, and upcoming films include Wonder Woman 1984, The Flash, and Black Adam.
